MD-10 Extend Range of data used for liquid distributor liquid head correlations Expected Economic Benefit: More certainty in the liquid head calculation used for the design and troubleshooting of liquid distributors. Present Situation and Proposed Research: Design Practices Handbook Section 3 already has correlations based on a range of hole sizes, D/T, physical properties, etc. Proposed research is to extend the data to include even smaller holes such as 2.0 mm with sheet metal thickness of 1.5mm. A recent test of a Dow distributor with small holes did not correspond well with estimated head using the FRI correlation in the Handbook. INTERNALS AND TEST SYSTEM: "Typical" trough type distributor with main channel on top. Systems similar to what has been used in the past to develop the existing correlations (water at least). RESEARCH FACILITY LOCATION: Could be FRI or anywhere with available test stand. Maybe even a Member company could perform the tests. Or do the tests at the same facility as prior research to provide additional "control" of the data. ESTIMATED TIME: 1 week or more depending on if there are any additional tests added beyond just testing small holes NON-STANDARD COSTS: May need to purchase a distributor. Background and Discussion: See discussion of present situation. Traditional Research Idea
